Close up on how the lathe was tied down. We used four ratchet straps from the race car for each corner, criss-crossed to prevent movement during the 300 mile drive back from the University of Delaware. Another was tied down around the bed vertically for safety, and the trailer winch tied it down forwards. In front of the lathe is the plexiglass rear hatch for the Camaro, which should save 50 lbs.

Done! It's a South Bend CL0145B lathe, 13"x40", roughly 6 feet total length and 1500 lbs. It was purchased from teh University of Delaware when they consolidated machine shops, and came with plenty of tooling, 3, 4 and 5 jaw chucks, a taper attachment, a drill grinding attachment, and many inserts and boring bars. Next step is to swap out the 3 phase 2hp motor for a single phase, or purchase a phase converter.
